Flavour Profile

Lifted aromas of violet, fresh cherry and wild strawberry lead into a light, juicy palate filled with bright red berries. A subtle minty freshness keeps everything lively and makes this an exceptionally easy-drinking chilled red wine. Fresh rather than heavy, with soft tannins and a clean, refreshing finish.

About Niepoort

Niepoort began as a small Port house in 1842 and is now one of Portugal’s most innovative independent wine producers. Fifth-generation winemaker Dirk Niepoort has helped reshape perceptions of Portuguese wine by working with native grape varieties, old vineyards and lower-intervention winemaking across regions including the Douro, Bairrada and Dão.
Nat Cool is Niepoort’s playful natural wine project, centred around wines that are light, authentic and uncomplicated to enjoy. The Clarete’s illustrated bag-in-box, designed by Portuguese artist Bráulio Amado, captures that same relaxed spirit.

About Bag-in-Box Wines

This 3L wine box contains the equivalent of four standard bottles, making it an excellent option for parties, barbecues and dinners with friends. At £70, it works out at £17.50 per 75cl bottle. The bag contracts as wine is poured, reducing its contact with oxygen and helping it remain fresh for longer after opening than wine in a conventional bottle. Keep the box chilled after opening and pour a glass whenever you fancy one.

How to pair it

Serve this Portuguese red wine lightly chilled, at around 12–14°C. Its freshness works beautifully with grilled vegetables, barbecue food, charcuterie, pizza, tomato-based dishes and soft cheeses. The generous 3L format provides around 24 125ml glasses, making it an ideal wine for a party. It is equally useful for keeping in the fridge when you want the occasional glass of natural red wine without opening a full bottle.
