Cosima Bassouls now leads her family’s 7-hectare estate near Morgon’s famed Côte du Py and is a rising voice in Beaujolais’ new generation. Trained in international agro-development, she returned to France after humanitarian work and later stepped in to run the domaine, guided by a commitment to organic and regenerative farming. Since 2019 she has converted all vineyards to organics, introducing agroforestry, cover crops and soil-restoring practices, while pioneering new training methods such as replacing gobelet with cordon and braiding vine shoots rather than trimming.
Her historic family estate, Château des Vergers (founded in 1604), sits in Lantignié on pink granite and blueschist soils that give Gamay depth and complexity. Cosima is also at the forefront of the movement to elevate Lantignié to Cru status, working alongside 18 fellow growers who share resources and a vision for an organically farmed, future-focused Beaujolais.
