Toscana Bianco Procanico Antonio Camillo
A wonderful orange wine made from Procanico - a rare variety that is assumed to be a local clone of Trebbiano Toscano. Antonio macerates the grapes for a whole 15 days on the skins, before maturing the wine in cement tanks to round out the tannins. This is a serious, Georgian-style orange wine, with plenty of tannins contributing to a weighty mouthfeel, but with a good acidity to clean the palate as well. It is bursting with citrusy notes of orange, lemon and grapefruit - zest, pith, and all - as well as stone fruits, a herbaceous quality and a nutty almond flavour. A stand-out wine, at an affordable price point.
Antonio Camillo, a native of Tuscany, worked for 15 years as a cellar master at top estates before starting his own venture. He purchased two ancient, organic vineyards at the border of Lazio, totalling 5 hectares, and produces natural wines alongside a host of other young, innovative producers that are making a name for themselves in this part of the world.
