Nuvo Nivo Intaba Chenin Blanc
Another delicious wine by Modal, this time in conjunction with winemaker Angelo Van Dyk from Yo el Rey, utilising grapes that might otherwise be sold off anonymously. The vines are planted in decomposed shale and look back at the city with uninterrupted views of Table Mountain on one side, and the sea a mere 5km away on the other.
The nose is aromatic with notes of quince, apple, and stone fruit, as well as a gentle creaminess from fermentation and ageing in barrel. The palate is structured and textured without heaviness, with a freshness and acidity that keeps everything alive and the finish clean and long. A serious wine at an unserious price, as is the style of Nuvo Nivo.
Angelo works in a low-intervention style in the cellar, and as of 2023, is now working exclusively with négoce fruit farmed without any chemicals.
