Niepoort, Drink Me Nat Cool, Bairrada

Nat Cool Baga from Niepoort is a soft, light, and joyful expression of the Baga grape. Normally known for its firm tannins and long aging potential, Baga shows a very different side here thanks to old vines (80–100 years) and hands-off winemaking, including carbonic maceration, which naturally reduces tannin extraction. The result is a bright, juicy red full of wild berry fruit, floral notes, and refreshing lift. A touch of spritz on opening quickly fades, revealing a vibrant, playful wine brimming with youthful energy.

Part of the Niepoort family’s boundary-pushing Nat’Cool project, this wine comes from Quinta de Baixo in the Minho region. Niepoort, founded in 1842, has long been known as a small but visionary Port house, now led by fifth-generation siblings Dirk and Verena Niepoort. What began as a niche operation has grown into one of Portugal’s most respected names, producing everything from traditional Ports to expressive natural wines across the Douro, Bairrada and Dão. Dirk’s commitment to understanding soils, microclimates and native grapes has drawn the estate toward organic and biodynamic farming, with many vineyards now certified.
