Cos Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico
A classic Sicilian blend, made with the austere Nero d'Avola and fruity Frappato. The result is ruby-coloured, light bodied, and bursting with notes of wonderfully concentrated black cherry, plum, raspberry, blueberry, violet, tobacco and vanilla. The palate is silky, with soft tannins and a juicy acidity.
COS was founded in 1980 by three university friends on a shoestring budget: Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano and Giusto Occhipinti. Young, forward thinking in both low intervention winemaking and biodynamic viticulture, the three started out on a mission to let the area around Vittoria thrive with its extraordinary wines, and today we can say they succeded. The winery is located in the south eastern Sicily, between Ragusa and Gela just a few kilometers away from the sea in a stunning setting of vegetation filled with vineyards and olives, almond and carob groves. COS is distinctive for its use of amphorae rather than oak barrels for the ageing of its wines, helping to retain fruit and varietal purity in its wines.
