Pet Nat wines

We feature a wide range of Pet Nats, aka Petillant Naturel, made using the Ancestral Method. The oldest form of sparkling wine, this is bottled before fermentation finishes, allowing the wine to continue fermenting and creating natural carbonation. As a result, these tend to have more delicate bubbles and are often unfiltered.

FAQs

Here you will find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions for this category.

What is sparkling wine?

Simply put, sparkling wines are wines that contain a higher level of carbon dioxide, giving them their signature fizz. While many people are familiar with white sparkling wine or rosé sparkling wine, there’s a whole world beyond, including red sparkling wine, Frizzante, and even Pet Nat. Whether you're looking for something light and bubbly or rich and complex, there is a variety of sparkling wines to explore, from everyday options like Cava and Prosecco to more unique and special selections like Champagne and Natural Petillant.

What is the difference between champagne and sparkling wine?

The main difference between Champagne and sparkling wine is in their origin.
Champagne is a type of sparkling wine that comes specifically from the Champagne region in France and is made under strict regulations, using a traditional method called “méthode traditionelle”.
Sparkling wine, on the other hand, refers to any wine with bubbles and can come from anywhere in the world, made using various methods. While Champagne tends to have a more complex, toasty flavour, sparkling wines like Prosecco, rosé sparkling wine, or red sparkling wine can offer a range of lighter, fruitier profiles, perfect for different tastes and occasions.

How long does sparkling wine last unopened?

Unopened sparkling wine lasts differently depending on the type. Prosecco and non-vintage sparkling wines are best within 1-2 years, while vintage Champagne can last 3-5 years or longer. Pet Nat wines are best enjoyed within 1-2 years for freshness. Store all sparkling wines in a cool, dark place to keep those bubbles at their best!

What are Pet Nat wines?

Pet Nat (Pétillant Naturel) is a natural sparkling wine made through a method called "ancestral," where fermentation is stopped early to trap carbon dioxide, creating gentle bubbles. Known for its cloudy appearance and fresh, fruity flavours, Pet Nat wines are often less refined than traditional sparkling wines, offering a fun, natural alternative for bubbly lovers.

What is red sparkling wine?

Red sparkling wine is a sparkling wine made from red grape varieties, resulting in a wine that's both bubbly and rich in colour and flavour. These wines can range from light and fruity to deep and complex, offering a unique twist on traditional sparkling wines. Popular examples include Lambrusco from Italy and Negrette from France.
