Flavour Profile

Aromatic and expressive, Motor Blanc opens with yeasty, floral and herbal notes, think wild nettles and Mediterranean brush. The palate is bright and zesty with quince, citrus, and tropical fruit, layered over a taut mineral backbone. The finish is juicy, dry, and saline, supported by mouthwatering acidity. Fermented partly in traditional red Mallorcan clay vats, and bottled unfiltered, unrefined, and with no added sulphites, this is pure island vibrancy in a glass.

About the Winery: 4Kilos

Founded in 2006 by Francesc Grimalt (formerly of Ánima Negra) and Sergio Caballero (a musician and partner in the Sonar Festival), 4Kilos began humbly in a friend’s garage with just four million pesetas, hence the name. Today, they operate from a converted sheep barn near Felanitx, working with small-scale growers across Mallorca. Their philosophy centres on minimal intervention, local varieties, and expressing the rich diversity of the Balearic Islands’ terroir.

About Prensal Blanco

Also known as Moll, Prensal Blanco is a native Mallorcan grape variety that thrives in the island’s coastal climate. Traditionally used for light, fresh whites, it’s increasingly being embraced for natural and low-intervention winemaking, offering delicate aromatics, crisp acidity, and a textured mouthfeel.

How to Pair It

Serve well chilled as a sunny-day aperitif, or pair it with grilled prawns, sardines, shellfish, herbed chicken, or a platter of young cheeses. Its acidity and minerality also cut beautifully through richer Mediterranean-style dishes like aioli, paella, or Mallorcan "tumbet".

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of wine is made in Mallorca?

Mallorca produces a range of wines, but is especially known for fresh, mineral-driven whites like those made from Prensal Blanco, as well as bold, rustic reds and natural wines from small, independent producers like 4Kilos.

What is Prensal Blanco wine?

Prensal Blanco is a native white grape from Mallorca, known for producing light, aromatic wines with citrus, herbal notes, and good acidity. It is especially suited to natural winemaking styles and island cuisine.

Is Mallorca known for wine?

Yes, Mallorca is an increasingly important Spanish wine region, gaining international recognition for its artisan winemakers, native grapes, and low-intervention wines made across its varied terroirs in the Balearic Islands.

What makes Balearic wines unique?

Balearic wines are influenced by Mediterranean breezes, limestone soils, and island microclimates, creating fresh, mineral, and often saline wines. Many are made with local grape varieties using traditional or natural methods.

What’s the difference between Spanish orange wine and white wine?

Orange wine is made from white grapes that are fermented on their skins, giving the wine texture, tannin, and amber colour. While Motor Blanc is technically a white wine, its natural, unfiltered character and use of traditional fermentation vessels give it a textural, orange-like profile.
