Bela Vipava White, Burja, Slovenia

An intense orange wine with floral aromas, ripe tropical and stone fruits on the nose and fresh citrus, oyster shell and some richer herbal notes on the palate. Good texture and medium body balanced by a lively streak of acidity.

The fruit is carefully harvested by hand with 70% fermented in oak barrels and the remainder in concrete tanks. The young wine is then aged in oak barrels for 11 months and is bottled without filtering or fining to preserve the full natural character of the wine. Drink it now or leave it to age in the cellar for up to 8 years.

Located about 20km from the Italian border and Friuli region, where producers such as Gravner and Radikon started making waves in the late 90's. The Vipava Valley is carachterised by its Flysch soil and fierce wind, and is where the Lavrenčič family have lived and made wine for at least three generations. 

Burja is the solo project of Primoz Lavrenčič, who seeks to work in harmony with nature wherever possible and practices both organic and biodynamic viticulture. He primarily uses local grape varieties - like Malvazija, Welschriesling, Rebula, and Vipavec - which are well-suited to this region with its proximity to the sea and the mountains.
