Flavour profile

On the nose, expect citrus peel, peach skin, fennel, and a touch of sea breeze. The palate is dry and textural with notes of orange zest, wild herbs, apricot, and a slightly savoury finish. The skin contact gives it a gentle tannic grip and a lovely amber hue, making it a refreshing yet complex wine.

About Casa Balaguer Vinessens winery

Casa Balaguer Vinessens is a family-run project based in Alicante, on Spain’s southeastern coast. Founded by Andrés Carull and Marta Ribera, they focus on organic and biodynamic farming, working mainly with local grape varieties. Their winemaking is low-intervention: wild ferments, no filtering, and minimal sulphur. Their wines (like Tragolargo) are honest, expressive, and deeply rooted in place.

About orange wine

Orange wine is made by fermenting white grapes with their skins, just like red wine. This skin contact gives the wine its amber colour, subtle tannins, and a deeper, more savoury flavour. It’s one of the world’s oldest winemaking techniques, now revived by natural winemakers for its complexity and unique style. Expect wines that are more structured than your typical white, often with aromas of dried fruit, tea, and herbs.

How to pair it

This is a food wine through and through. The texture and savoury edge of Tragolargo Blanco make it a great match for Mediterranean dishes, such as grilled fish, marinated vegetables, salty tapas, or garlicky prawns. It also plays beautifully with Middle Eastern spices, fermented foods, and anything umami-rich. Try it with a mezze platter, miso-glazed aubergine, or even roast chicken with preserved lemon.
