A proper Loire Chenin that can easily stand up to the greats of the region. The grapes come from a single vineyard in the Anjou subregion, which Olivier began painstakingly regenerating completely naturally around 5 years ago. The grapes age on their lees in old oak for 12 months, to add the classic weight and bakery aromas that pair so well with high-acid Chenin Blanc. It has all the hallmarks of the style, with notes of tarte tatin, stewed pear, honey, beeswax and wet wool, as well as more unique edges of citrus peel, baking spices, and herbal flavours. It has a lovely weight on the palate with the signature flash of acid to offset it and keep it light on its feet, with a long and complex finish. Definitely one to snap up while you can.
Olivier Lejeune, the man behind Clos des Plantes, did the rounds at some of the top vineyards in Europe and New Zealand to refine his winemaking talents, before embarking on this solo venture in the late 2010s. His attention to detail is meticulous - bordering on obsessive - and he treats his superb 3ha terroir of schist veined with quartz and volcanic rock with the utmost care, and in accordance with eco-friendly principles. Poësis is his first cuvée, and one that has seen instant popular fame for its purity and concentration.
