Layers of rustic bramble fruit and intense minerality with a level of  finesse that only Christian can bring. A real treat, extremely refined and classic. Very refreshing body and a great supporting acidity. Light but complex - just pure fun.

The vines (100% Pinot Noir) for this wine are 40 years old and hand-harvested before being de-stemmed and crushed by foot. The juice ferments in two large barrels with indigenous yeast and no racking. It spends one year ageing in a barrel and is bottled without fining or filtering and no addition of sulphur.

Christian cultivates 10 hectares of old vines in the Neusiedlersee region. This area of Burgenland has a unique microclimate due to the moderating influence of the huge lake Neusiedl. Christian has a very hands-off approach in his vineyards, preferring to let nature take its course. His wild-looking parcels are instantly recognisable – overgrown with cover crops that both preserve biodiversity in the vineyards and force the vines to bury their roots deep into the soils in search of nutrients.

Calcarius are based in Apricena, in the northern region of Gargano, Puglia (just south of Abruzzo). 

Valentina Passalacqua oversee a farm comprising 80 hectares of vines, fruit, and vegetables. This project bears the fruits of patient observation, attention to terroir, and a commitment to indigenous varietals. The vineyards are characterised by Kimmeridgian calcareous soils (thus Calcarius) and are true wines of terroir - mineral, tense, and uncompromising. Valentina has been the leading exponent of biodynamics in Puglia since 2000.

Bold, classic Malbec from Mendoza, with subtle hints of oak and vanilla, as well as some spice and dark currants. The darker fruit flavours still maintain a delicious freshness though, and the natural methods of production are an added bonus.

The grapes are manually harvested, mostly de-stemmed (with 7-10% whole bunch), then fermented in stainless vats with maceration on skins for twenty days. They use native yeasts during fermentation, and the wine is matured in small used barrels for 12 months. No fining, a light filtration and a small amount of sulphur added.

This is a family owned vineyard where, after finishing his studies in France and working on several harvests around the world, Lucas decided to start his own project back home. Using only his favourite plots, he wanted to reflect the terroir as much as possible in the wines by avoiding over manipulation in the vineyard and in the cellar. The vineyard is located at 890m elevation, with a continental, dry climate. Ugarteche, the province within Mendoza, is known for very cold nights and very warm days.

Declassified Rioja, from a winemaker who dislikes playing by the rules. Lovely cherry colour in the glass, which carries through to the nose along with other red fruit and cassis. Surprisingly juicy and acidic for the grape, this has excellent acidity and a soft, fruity palate. Fresh on the finish, with a bit of length. A great anytime red.

Dedicating the Gran Cerdo label (which translates to Big Pig in Spanish) to the bank executives who wouldn't give him a loan to start his wine business, Gonzalo Grijalba has developed a bit of a cult following. He's extremely passionate about reclaiming the biodiversity of the earth he farms, and has eschewed more commercial practices involving pesticides and herbicides for more biodynamic methods.

The makers didn't want to sacrifice their natural practices (like adding almost no sulphites) just to maintain their 'Chianti' certification, so they decided to live without the name. It ticks all the boxes though, being fruit-driven and well structured, with a fairly dry finish. The soil is fairly poor in nutrients, so all the grape's flavours are very well developed.
