The ‘Grand Cerdo’ or ‘large pig’ is 100% Tempranillo and, true to form, Gonzalo Gonzalo includes no information on the label other than a rant aimed at the bank managers who have refused to lend him money to develop his business. (You really should read the back label!). This red is actually from 4.5 hectares of 35 year-old de-classified Rioja vines, declassified as Gonzalo Gonzalo cropped over the permitted 6 tonnes/hectare. A clear cherry red in the glass. On the nose, aromas of red fruits and cassis with earthy notes. On the palate, light and juicy with great acidity with plenty of sweet red fruit flavours. The finish is fresh and medium in length.
This hugely enjoyable red is made by cult winemaker Gonzalo Gonzalo Grijalba, the ‘enfant terrible’ of the Rioja region. Having first studied Biology at the University of Leon and then Oenology at the University of Rioja, he proceeded to make biodynamic wines in the hills of Rioja.

Bold Classic Malbec from Mendoza, subtle hints of oak with touches of vanilla, spice and dark currants.
A truly superb Mendoza Malbec with plenty of Argy, Bargy fruit and intensity yet with the delicious freshness that comes from natural production.
The grapes are manually harvested in 20 kg boxes, destemmed with (7-10%) whole bunch, followed by a stainless vat fermentation with maceration on skins for twenty days. Ferment is ambient with native yeasts and the wine is matured in used barrels of 225 litres for 12 months. No fining, a light filtration and a small amount of sulphur used.

A family owned vineyard where after finishing his studies in France and some harvests around the world Lucas decided to start this small project back home using only his favourite plots. The idea is to express as much as possible the terroir in the wines by avoiding over manipulation and wine making tricks in the winery. The vineyard is located at 890 m above sea-level. With a continental dry climate. Ugarteche is known for very cold nights and very warm days. The vines are certified organic and Lucas' approach is very hands off in the cellar.

The grapes are fermented for 11 days whilst macerating with their skins before being pressed into old oak barrels. Nothing is added apart from a tiny amount of sulphur before bottling.

Full carbonic maceration keeps things poppy, light on its feet, and fresh. For all intents and purposes this is the complex light red wine go-to and truly couldn't be more gluggable.
