Claus Preisinger Puszta Libre

BIODYNAMIC
A certified slammer from Burgenland's Claus Preisinger. This blend of Zweigelt and St Laurent is packed full of blackberries and wafts of spice, with just a hint of tannin it is a welcome addition to any table, park or beach, especially when served a little chilled.
The retro-style bottle and label is reminiscent of the vessels once used for lemonade in the 1920s. The eponymously named Puszta, which translates to “prairie” or “plains” in Hungarian, harkens back to a time when the source vineyard sites were once part of Hungary. Libre, of course, is Spanish for “free.” You are now free to drink and don’t think with the easy quaffing Puszta Libre!

Claus Preisinger has been working biodynamically near the shores of Lake Neusiedlersee in Burgenland for over a decade and now farms nineteen hectares over some sixty parcels, producing a staggering number of cuvees each year.

Origin: Burgenland, Austria
Vintage: 2019
Grape variety: St.Laurent, Zweigelt
Food pairing: Lamb, Pork, Mature, and hard cheese, Blue cheese

Feints Ruth Lewandowski
(0)

ORGANIC/NATURAL/VEGAN/LOW SUPLHITES
Working at once with all of the Piedmontese varieties found at Fox Hill, Feints is quite an unexpected wine. It's a co-fermentation of Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Arneis...yes, three reds and a white (and nearly 50% white each year)! Full carbonic maceration keeps things poppy, light on its feet, and fresh. For all intents and purposes this is the complex light red wine go-to and truly couldn't be more gluggable. Chill it down, drink it, be happy.

Origin: California, USA
Vintage: 2018
Grape variety: Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo
Food pairing: BBQ, coleslaw, duck, lemongrass beef

Partida Creus VN Vinel.Lo Tinto
(0)

BIODYNAMIC/VEGAN/NO ADDED SUPLHITES
VN, or Vinel·lo, is a field blend of seven grape varietals: Trepat, Sumoll, Garrut, Queixal de Llop, Ull de Perdiu, Garnacha, and Samsó. It drinks like a light Jura red. This wine is crazy drinkable and when it is served with a little chill can please any wine drinker.

Partida Creus is the project of two Italians now in residence in the Tarragona region of Catalonia, just south of Barcelona. The idea of the project was to work with historical, often overlooked local varietals that in many cases were not recognised by the D.O. of the area: Penedès. Massimo and Antonella strategically went about buying up small plots of abandoned vineyards dotted around the area where mostly unknown varietals such as Garrut, Vinyater, Samsó and Queixal de Llop grew. They sought to revitalise the vines and work out the best expression for these old varetals, working without chemicals in the vineyard and without selected yeasts or any other additions in the cellar. They make an impressively dizzying number of different wines, all of which are unified by a very distinctive house style - raw, viceral and pungent reds, and salty, turbid, expressive whites. As a couple they have an insatiable energy that really comes through in the wine.

Origin: Bonastre, Tarragona, Spain
Vintage: 2018
Grape variety: Trepat, Sumoll, Garrut, Queixal de Llop, Ull de Perdiu, Garnacha, and Samsó
Food pairing: Beef, Pasta, Veal, Poultry

NATURAL/ORGANIC
Super fun and light red wine from Brendan Tracey. Crunchy cranberries and strawberries with just a hint of spice make very drinkable. Super-silky, with a burst of minerality that provides a beautiful backbone. Chill it slightly for optimum spring/summer drinking and try not to glug it down too quickly!
Inspired by the f$*k-all/do-anything attitude of California punk in the late 1970’s, Brendan Tracey, a New Jersey native who’d attended high school in France, moved from San Francisco to Paris where he helped launch a local FM station in 1981. After years of working as a Disc-Jockey, Program Director and finally News Reporter and Presenter, Brendan abandoned his career of 27-years, to study winemaking at the Lycée Viticole in Amboise.

ORGANIC
Elisabetta Faradori is bringing the teroldego grape back from the brink! A key figure in Biodynamic winemaking in Trentino, Elisabetta is making wine on a beautiful estate of some 26 hectares and produces 160 000 bottles of superb biodynamic wine from various local varieties
Last August a devastating hail destroyed 40% of her harvest. This wine is a result of an experimentation - around 20 different experiments from the home vineyards, of which three quarters went into the final blend. Some went into amphorae, some into oak, some into steel, some into cement, some with the floating cap method and others with direct press. The result is this juicy, light, unpretentious but with a degree of seriousness.
